Richard "Dick" Garten

Richard “Dick” Garten, 79, of Pt. Pleasant, WV passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026. He was born on December 26, 1946, the son of the late Harry and Lucille Garten.

Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who treasured time spent with his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan C. Garten; his daughters, Angela Garten-Harper, Renie (Donnie) Shepler, and April (Charles) Roach; and his son, Brandon Giesey.

He was a proud grandfather to Shyanne Harper, Sierrah (Travis) Warth, Myria (Chris) Barton, Maddie Blain, and Tristan Roach, and was blessed with great-grandchildren, Cayson, Harper, Layton, Weston, and River Anne, who brought him immense joy.

Dick is also survived by his sister, Sandra Kay Hanning; his brother, Terry Garten; and a special cousin, Gary Rife, along with several nieces and nephews. He shared a special bond with the mother of his daughters, Yvonna Persinger.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Lynn (Judy) Garten, sister-in-law, Joann Garten and brother-in-law, Don Hanning and his maternal grandmother, Freda Clark.

Dick proudly served his community as a member of the Pt. Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department, dedicating his time and heart to helping others. He will be remembered for his kindness, his devotion to family, and the lasting impact he made on those who knew him.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 2:00pm at the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home in Middleport.   Burial will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery.   Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service (12-2:00pm).
