Paul Harris Obituary

   Paul E. Harris 92 passed away March 21, 2024 at Overbrook Center. Paul was born to Orris and Anna Harris in Minersville OH on what was called the island on the banks of the Ohio River. In the 1937 flood he and his Siblings were removed from their 2-story home by row boat from the second-floor window. As a young boy him and another boy would take people by boat from Syracuse to Minersville during floods. One time out of orneriness they dumped a man off the boat that wasn't willing to pay.

  Paul attended Syracuse grade school and graduated in 1950 from Pomeroy High School. In 1951 Paul enlisted in the US Navy where he served 4 years. After returning home he built a home on the island for his wife Minnie Susan Goodnite Harris next to his parents’ home. There they raised 5 children. Sherry Robinson (Glen) Gene Harris (Sherry) Alisa Findley (Rick) Eric Harris (Sara) Michelle Miller (Chris)

  Paul worked as a carpenter and masonry and with these skills he later helped build each of his kid’s homes.

   In 1957 he was hired at Kaiser Aluminum in WV until he retired in 1994.

  Paul was a very helpful neighbor with plowing gardens, pushing snow, and construction Work but always had fun time for his children and neighbors’ children taking them on wagon rides and building docks for the kids to fish from and swings out over the river.

   He enjoyed gardening, butchering, vacation time, and his church family. He taught his family to put God first and each and every day he would start out with his devotions.

   After his first wife passed away Paul married Lillian Oreatha Gibbs and gained a step son Jeff Gibbs (Diane) In Paul’s retired years him and Lillian enjoyed traveling.

   Preceding Paul in death are his wife Minnie son and daughter in law Gene and Sherry Harris, grandsons Shaun & Joshua Harris Ricky Findley II and Clayton Findley. Sisters Virginia (Mason Fisher) Sara (Milton Roush) and brother Ernie Harris Sister-in-law Muriel & Norman Vogelar. Brother-in-law Hubert & Eleanor Goodnite and Ray& Mary Goodnite.

   Leaving behind until they meet in the cloud line grandchildren Heather Harris, Glen Robinson II, Michael Robinson, Makayla Findley, Jacob, Ben and Sophie Harris and Step grandson Cadem Gibbs, Great grandchildren Jacob & Whitney Robinson, Blake and Kaley Robinson. Great great grandson Jace Robinson and a great great granddaughter on their way.

   Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024 at 1:00pm at the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy with Greg Harger officiating. Burial will follow at in the Letart Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service (11:00am-1:00pm)
