Joyce Ann Blake

Joyce Ann Blake, age 81, passed away peacefully in her home on May 6, 2022. Joyce was born on May 12, 1940, in Camden-on-Gauley, West Virginia, as the oldest of 11 children. She married Edward M. (Eddie) Blake, Jr on December 21, 1962, and settled down in Middleport, Ohio. In the years that followed Joyce worked as a homemaker raising her four children and as a business owner alongside her husband operating Max’s restaurant and R.E. Tracy Fire Equipment. She continued this work after her husband’s passing working tirelessly to ensure the success of her children and businesses. During this time Joyce dedicated her life to Jesus and served in her local church and community in countless ways.
Joyce has left a legacy of loving the Lord and serving others. Whether it was cooking delicious meals at her home, running a food pantry, cleaning the church, serving in children’s ministry, supporting mission trips, witnessing to others both in her community and as far away as Nicaragua, or simply helping to care for her grandchildren, Joyce embodied a life of love and service to the Lord and those around her. To her many siblings she was a pillar of strength and support. To her children she was their tireless champion, supporting them and pointing them to the Lord at every turn. To her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she exemplified unconditional love and an example of a life of faith devoted to God. To her entire family she was a living testimony of what a life of faith and loving Jesus looks like. She was always full of laughter and joy. She loved to sew, craft, and color. She made the best sweet tea, and her hot dog sauce is the stuff of legend in her hometown. She was a refuge for her entire family and her home was always open to those who needed it. Though she will be terribly missed, her words of encouragement, prayers, and testimonies of the many miracles she saw throughout her life will live on in those she loved for generations to come as she continues to cover them in prayer from her new heavenly home.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Edward M. Blake Jr. and her daughter, Kathy L. Blake. She is survived by her daughter Ruth Ann (Danny) Porter of New Haven, WV, her son Max E.
